Suspended for just a moment above a blooming prickly pear, a hummingbird becomes the focal point of this vibrant desert-inspired bead mosaic. The bird is created with elongated glass beads that emphasize the sweep of its wings and the movement of its body, while thousands of tiny green beads build the rich surface of the cactus below. Smooth glass stones and sculptural beadwork form the colorful cactus blossoms, creating a striking contrast between the organic shapes of the plant and the delicate motion of the bird. A softly painted blue background keeps the composition light and open, allowing the dimensional beadwork to stand forward from the surface. The result is a joyful study of color, texture, and that fleeting moment when a hummingbird seems to hover perfectly still.
